Umberto "Beto" Arguera was born in El Salvador and served as a soldier during the country's Civil War, on the side of the loyalists. He was conscripted against his will and, when the oppertunity presented itself, defected. He traveled another to the U.S.A. with his pregnant wife. Their child came during the trip and both child and mother did not survive.

Beto made his way to NYC with other immigrants fleeing the same conflict, carving a time in the Salvidorian community in Innwood Queens, NYC. He become ordained in 1989, and was instructed to move to Kentucky to replace a pastor who had passed recently. Thus started his residence in Muldraugh.
